I'm on a Boat

Today is another travel day! I am currently on a boat in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

Melissa and Jessica, this question is for you. Can you tell me what that boat rap song is? Spring break 2009, it talks about floppy floppies. All the Provoians think I'm crazy because I keep singing it and they don't know what it is.

This morning we woke up to go to John's prison where he wrote the Book of Revelation. Not only was the view incredible, but there was a Greek Orthodox church ceremony going on in the cave. It was all in Greek, but there was lots of singing, lighting of candles, crossing themselves (I dont know what that's called, hopefully you know what I'm talking about), swinging the burning incense lamps, and chanting. It was really hot in that cave. I wish I could understand Greek because it was quite amazing. The dedication to their faith really shows. This one lady was bowed to the ground crying and kissing the floor.

I got shushed by this elderly Greek lady when I walked out of the church/cave. I feel terrible. I was asking my director the meaning of this shiny silver box encased in glass by where John supposedly would sleep. I must have asked too loud. I feel really bad because I would never disrespect another faith's sacred place (or meeting in this case).

After the cave we went to the monastery the ancients built in honor of John. The inside was very ornate. Actually, all the mosaics I've seen this trip are incredible. They had Greek monks walking around. Unfortunately we couldn't take pictures of the monks.

Afterwards we had a few hours before our ferry to Kos. We walked around the shops and got food. I ate a croissant bacon cheese thing and some ice cream. I love the food here!

Now we are sitting on the boat. Think airplane seats but on the water moving super fast. I think I might be getting sea sick because I feel weird. Biggest pet peeve: people leaving a gap in lines and people cutting in lines. And Europeans don't care about either, they just do what they want. It was very irritating. But I'm now in the air conditioning so I guess it's ok.

Kinda an awkward photo

1 hour later...
Still on the boat. We're going super fast so we decided to go up top to play in the wind. My new cute headband I bought (2.5 Euro) was swept right off. I'm super bummed.

4 hours later...
I found a new headband! And this cute girl even bought me a headband! She is super nice, I am very grateful for her kindness. We walked around Kos for three hours. Nothing very exciting but this:

A 2500 year old olive tree. Ha ha

We're on a boat again. 5 more hours until Santorini.

  1. The song is called 'I'm on a Boat' by The Lonely Island. It's a little explicit or else I'd post the link on here. I'm so jealous you're going to Santorini! I really feel like I should be there with you.
