First for the day we went to the black sand beach. It was unreal. We swam to this pile of rocks and played and dived into the water. The water is extra salty and sulfery. Ha ha my swim suit kinda fell off when I dived, it was embarrassing but luckily no one saw!
Getting anywhere is hard on this island because BYU doesn't allow students to operate motorized vehicles. Which makes sense, it's safer that way. But we have to take the bus, which is smelly and expensive (1.60 Euro one way).
We had to catch the cable car to catch our ferry to the volcano. So that was stressful finding it amongst the windy roads and white buildings. Everything is built on the cliffs and on top of the island, the boats are obviously at the bottom in the water.
We caught the boat/ferry and sailed out to the muddy hot springs. It was crazy swimming in it! Girls who had white swimsuits came out muddy brown. It was really cool swimming though. My favorite purchase thus far are a pair of pink goggles. They're hilarious looking. I'm totally rocking them in the states.
Next we sailed to the volcano. It was 2 more Euros to actually enter the national park and see the volcano (scam I know, you'd think it'd be included with the boat cost, duh. Oh well). I was a little disappointed, there was no lava or magma or stream at all. Just a bunch of rocks. But the view was incredible. Santorini is like Newport but 20 times better. Funny, my buddy Todd and I sang the theme song from Hercules to pump ourselves to the hike down. The hike was quite strenuous.
When we ported I took the cable car to the hotel to take a cold shower. The hot day made me break out into a heat rash. The others in the group took a donkey ride up the cliff. How fun for them! I'm allergic anyway so I probably shouldn't ride one. I rode up with a cute girl named Morghan.
After my well needed skin recouperation, we took a bus to Oia (e-uh) to watch the sunset. Oh my gosh I can't even tell you how amazing this island is. I could spend two weeks here easy. I have to go here on my honeymoon. Ah, I loved the sunset, it was magical. We found this pool-bar, ordered drinks, and watched it from the cliff balcony. Amazing.
Now we're back at the hotel. I got to talk to my mom, yay the float won! I love my family.
Sorry if this is disjointed, I'm super tired. I love the people in my program, we're all really good friends. My favorite is this one girl named Kyra, she's just such a hoot. We definitely have a blast blast.
One of our group's favorite games we like to play is called pun. I'll explain it to anyone who wants to know.
I've spent so much money today. It's because everywhere we go transportation costs money.
Our hotel is amazing. But really confusing. There's four floors and four different wings. I'll have to take a video of how to get to my room. It seriously took me 5 minutes to find breakfast because I was lost in my hotel. Ha ha.
Hopefully that's it! Here's pictures:
