So yesterday we got home around 12:30am, which means we didn't get to bed until around 1:00-1:30am. To make the story worse, I calculated the time for my alarm on my phone wrong. My phone doesn't automatically change time because I don't have an international plan on my phone. So, we woke up an hour early. We were running late and when we went down to the lobby, no one was there. We thought we got left but realized it was 5am not 6am. Dumb moment on my part. So we got 4 hours of sleep. I'm so tired.
We had to leave early to make it to Pompeii. I was so excited to visit this city because I took an Earthquakes and Volcanoes class at the U. I made sure I saw the Garden of the Fugitives and The Villa of Mysteries. The city was perfectly preserved. The frescos in the Villa were amazing. They are the oldest frescos in the world. I loved the city and the artifacts.
Funny story, we thought that we had to be at the bus by 1:00pm. We couldn't find the Villa of Mysteries because it's pretty far out from the city and we had to ask for directions. We ran to the Villa of Mysteries. It is super hot in Pompeii, so we were sweating a lot. Then we find out we could be back at 1:30pm. I really struggled with time today. But it was all worth it because I have seen this city in text books and I know a lot about it.
Next we went to the city of Naples. We saw the Museum of Naples. It had some artifacts of Pompeii. After seeing the Bourgese though, my expectation of statues and art has gone up.
We are now driving back to Rome. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive back. We stopped at the Carfort grocery store. I got some crispy M&Ms and some Milka chocolate. I like the cows on the chocolate.
Hours later...
We finally made it back to the hotel. We decided to go see St. Peter's Basilica at night. It's a five minute walk from our hotel, which is super cool. On the way, there was this amazing Gelato place where they give three giant scoops for 1.5 Euro. This is an amazing price, and the gelato was pretty good. Kyra and I went running afterwards to blow off some steam. Thank you Todd for being our escort. Bro. Money wants the girls to have a guy around when roaming Rome at night.
I'm excited to go to bed because I'm running on four hours of sleep.
